In 1894, Alabama educator J. L. M. Curry, and again in 1930 by Frank Owsley, warned of the dangers of allowing Southern children to be taught from Northern books. Curry declared that if Southerners continued this practice, future generations would grow up ashamed of their past.
Owsley warned that Southern children would be taught that their history was an evil one, that the Southern cause would be labeled as evil or unrighteous. They were right.
