Review: This is my 2nd book by Dostoevsky and considering my last read (white nights, review link- https://t.me/shree_reviews/8 ) I was honestly very skeptical about this one, but it turned out way better than I could ever imagine lol Raskolnikov our protagonist is such an interesting character, he overthinks everything, isolates himself becomes suspicious of everyone and constantly goes back and forth between completely different thoughts, he contradicts himself all the time and Ig that’s exactly what makes him feel like such a human character Apart from Raskolnikov, Porfiry was another character I enjoyed the most, especially his conversion with Raskolnikov were so good, neither of them was actually saying what they meant so there was always this tension between them, It felt more like a psychological game than an actual conversation ( tbh my favourite parts of the book) As for the story, if I were to remove all the philosophical and psychological aspects from this book, it would be a pretty plain story, but since I gave it 5 stars, obviously it isn’t just a simple story, dostoevsky goes deep into guilt, morality, isolation, self justification and why people do the things they do and how they rationalize their own actions Ofc there were definitely parts that felt unnecessarily long, also the character names were a complete messs, I had to keep track of everyone’s names because apparently every important character has 3/5 diff names, tbh sometimes I was just reading the book without realizing who they were talking to/about, Like translator bro, if you knew this was going to happen, why didn’t you just keep the names consistent😭😭 Anyways, to summarise this review I’d say it was 656 pages of pure thrill!!
