#bookreview Carl Sagan wrote this book on the evolution of human intelligence, basically speculating on the evolution. He was known for his breathtaking speculations. This book is a good starter to read on this subject. Many of the ideas are dated cuz he was writing this around 1975-77. So from the beginning he took us into genes and brain anatomy and how some parts of brain has specific functions and how size of brain and malnutrition affects the function of brain. Then he discussed intelligence of other systems, and from where sense of self originates and the awareness of death which was quite interesting to read. He also talked about sleep cycle and dreams but it was all very basic as we all know that animals also dream. He also speculated on the intelligence of aliens.👽 Overall it was good read. One of the most fascinating thing i read on memory that it stored dynamically in separate specific parts is the reason why memory survives after brain damage in accidents. And the idea that the two hemispheres of the brain specialize in different functions and one control another. If one is good in visual then another in functioning.
