A guy just wants his wife back. The aliens won't let him. That's the whole pitch, and honestly it sells itself. The premise is absurdist gold, but what makes it land is the casting: Sam Richardson is exactly the kind of actor who makes cosmic humiliation feel warm rather than mean.
If you slept on his Werewolves Within, fix that first. This feels like the same DNA: genre scaffolding, genuine heart, jokes that respect your intelligence. Premiering at Fantastic Fest, which tends to have good radar for this stuff.
