🗞️ Medical Articles Source: Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice Topic: High-dose inhaled steroids after severe asthma flare show no added benefit In a large U.S. retrospective cohort study, stepping up to high-dose inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) after a severe asthma exacerbation did not reduce future exacerbation risk. Among patients on medium-dose ICS, escalation to high-dose was associated with higher annualized exacerbation rates and increased likelihood of another flare. Similar lack of benefit was seen when escalating from low- to high-dose ICS. Findings suggest alternative strategies may be preferable to routine high-dose ICS escalation after exacerbations.
