🔹 Inaugural India Kuwait Joint Defence Committee Meeting
• The first India Kuwait Joint Defence Committee, JDC meeting was held in New Delhi.
• It was co-chaired by Amitabh Prasad from India and Brigadier General Raed Alsakran from Kuwait.
• Cooperation areas include military training, exercises, military medicine, staff talks, defence industry and R&D.
• The mechanism operationalises the India Kuwait Defence Cooperation MoU signed in December 2024.
🔹 Prime Minister to Attend 26th SCO Summit
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Uzbekistan and Kyrgyz Republic from 29 August to 1 September 2026.
• He will attend the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Bishkek on 31 August and 1 September.
• The summit marks the 25th anniversary of the SCO.
• India became a full member of the SCO in 2017.
• India’s priorities at the forum will include Security, Connectivity and Opportunity.
🔹 Gnani Artha Sovereign AI Stack Launched
• Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan launched Gnani Artha at Uprashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
• Developed by GNANI AI, the sovereign AI stack comprises Evon 3.3 and Plexus.
• Evon 3.3 is a Large Language Model, while Plexus connects AI intelligence with real-world applications and institutions.
🔹 India’s Nuclear Energy Programme
• India currently operates 24 nuclear power reactors across 7 sites, with an installed capacity of 8.78 GW.
• Nine more reactors are under construction and preparations are underway for another 10 units.
• The Nuclear Energy Mission for Viksit Bharat targets 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047.
• Union Budget 2025 to 26 allocated ₹20,000 crore for indigenous Small Modular Reactors.
🔹 Indian Pharmacopoeia Reference Standards
• Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission launched 7 Indian Pharmacopoeia Phytochemical Reference Standards and 5 Botanical Reference Standards.
• The initiative aims to strengthen scientific standardisation and quality assurance of plant-based medicinal products.
🔹 National Sports Day 2026 Campaign
• National Sports Day 2026 is being observed from 28 to 30 August as a three-day nationwide campaign.
• Theme : “Tribute, Play, and Move.”
• National Sports Day commemorates the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand on 29 August.
• The campaign promotes sports, fitness and youth participation.
🔹 BSF Women Wrestling and Boxing Competition 2026
• The BSF Inter Command Women Wrestling and Boxing Competition 2026 concluded at Gandhinagar, Gujarat on 28 August.
🔹 India’s Malaria Elimination Progress
• India recorded nearly an 80% decline in malaria cases and deaths between 2015 and 2025.
• Number of high-burden districts declined from 155 to 33.
• 160 districts reported zero indigenous malaria cases during 2022 to 2025.
• India aims to achieve malaria elimination by 2030.
🔹 PARIVARTAN Scheme
• PARIVARTAN stands for Programme for Accelerated Renewal and Incentivization of Vehicle Assets for Reducing Transport Air Pollution and Network Emissions.
• It was approved by the Union Cabinet on 3 June 2026.
• Target: Replace over 2 lakh BS-IV or older trucks and buses in Delhi NCR with BS-VI or stricter compliant or electric vehicles.
• More than 1,300 beneficiaries, 42 banks/NBFCs and 15 automobile OEMs have joined the programme.
🔹 ₹5,000 Crore PRIP Scheme
• Department of Pharmaceuticals announced the second call for applications under the Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma and MedTech, PRIP Scheme.
• Scheme outlay: ₹5,000 crore.
• It supports startups, MSMEs and larger companies engaged in pharmaceutical and MedTech research and innovation.
🔹 National Sports Day
• Observed annually on 29 August, the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand.
• National Sports Day 2026 campaign theme : “Tribute, Play, and Move.”
