“No kids, no zoo at home.” I recently received this requirement from a partner looking to match a client with a potential bride. It made me think… Do we really start “collecting” pets as we get older or spend more time single? What are pets replacing for us? What emotional needs are we projecting onto them? And if pets cover such a significant part of our emotional well-being, does that mean our need for a human partner actually decreases? I know people who are completely fine with their dogs sleeping in bed with them. Someone even shared a story where a woman woke up at her partner’s place with a dog standing directly over her—simply because the pet was used to sleeping next to its owner. Others state right in their dating profiles: “Must love pets, or it’s a dealbreaker.” What are your thoughts on this? I started asking myself these questions as I slowly begin expanding my own “home zoo” 😅
