📍 Entry of Women into the Sangha
🟢 Initially, only men were allowed to join the Buddhist Sangha.
🟢 Later, women were also admitted into the Sangha during the lifetime of Buddha.
🟢 This was made possible through the mediation of Ananda, one of Buddha’s closest disciples.
🟢 Mahapajapati Gautami, Buddha’s foster mother, became the first woman to be ordained as a Bhikkhuni.
📍 Therigatha
🟢 It is a collection of verses composed by Bhikkhunis (Buddhist nuns).
🟢 It forms part of the Khuddaka Nikaya of the Sutta Pitaka.
🟢 It provides valuable insights into the social, spiritual and personal experiences of women in early Buddhism.
