🇬🇧 #UK: The RAF Fairford "terror plot" has taken another bizarre turn after police revealed that one of the five men arrested near the US-operated airbase had himself called police almost an hour before a local farmer dialled 999 after reportedly seeing men in balaclavas near three vans.
The five British men, aged 23 to 25, were arrested on suspicion of explosives offences and later on suspicion of terrorism offences, triggering a major security operation around the Gloucestershire base.
However, counter-terrorism police now say searches of the three vans found no explosive devices, with only a quantity of petrol recovered. Several other news outlets suggested that the entire incident may have involved "smuggling petrol," although this was not officially confirmed by British police.
The men were released on bail on Monday and remain under investigation.
Meanwhile, US officials, including Rubio, insist that this whole ordeal definitely involves "foreign agents."
