You should be preparing for it as best as you can RIGHT NOW. The more people who start growing fruit/nut trees/shrubs/vines and start raising livestock of their own, the better off we will all be.
A hazelnut sapling costs 20 bucks. You need at least 2 of them for pollination, but those 2 trees, once mature, will produce enough calories to last you 1/6th of the year on their own and their nuts have an unrefrigerated shelf life of half a year (double it if refrigerated and double it again if frozen). If you have land and aren't growing anything edible, you're going to kick yourself later on.
