7. Don't measure your relationship by how often you “hear” something. This is especially important. You may have days when you feel very close to God and days when you feel nothing. Feeling God's presence isn't the same thing as belonging to Him. John 10:27 doesn't say: “My sheep always have a strong spiritual feeling.” It says: “My sheep hear my voice… and they follow me.” Following Jesus through a spiritually dry day can actually be an expression of tremendous faith. Over time, you're not merely learning to hear a voice. You're learning to recognize a Shepherd.
