Orthodox Christians, this cannot go unanswered. On September 26, the Trustees of the St. Nicholas National Shrine in New York City plan to honor Ukrainian dictator Volodymyr Zelensky as a “Beacon of Hope.”This is the same Zelensky who:
• Signed a decree stripping 80-year-old Metropolitan Onufry of his Ukrainian citizenship, leaving him effectively stateless
• Oversees the ongoing persecution of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church
• Has seen churches and monasteries raided and seized
• Has allowed the forced mobilization of Orthodox priests
Meanwhile, many of us pray for Metropolitan Onufry and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at every Divine Liturgy. This award is not being given in the name of Christ. It is being given for money and power. Top sponsors are paying tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars. The Greek Archdiocese leadership appears willing to trade the honor of the Church for influence and cash. We must speak clearly:
