The first edition of The Frontier Audit is being launched by the Observer Research Foundation on 4 September 2026.
This is the first comprehensive study of India’s research and development (R&D) ecosystem across the six fields of artificial intelligence (AI), mathematical and computational sciences, materials science, biotech, space, and quantum technology.
Envisaged as an annual report, it helps understand India’s position vis-à vis the global R&D landscape, and could inform policy and programmatic decisions. The relevance of The Frontier Audit extends beyond the aforementioned six disciplines: offering insights into the cross-cutting opportunities and challenges Indian science and technology must negotiate today, it culminates in a 10-point agenda to improve India’s scientific readiness.
