Emotions are the original entertainment. In jail you see men cry happiness over coca cola and flip into a murderous rage over a banana. In the outside world you do not realize how entertaining emotions are, how addicting the feeling of being happy, sad, angry can be. You feel emotions outside of jail, yet you’re constantly distracted by work or your phone. The world's stimuli diminish the extent. It's very easy to be “stoic” when entertained by something else. In jail, where stimulus is limited, emotions become the entertainment of choice for most. Inmates ENJOY feeling anger. Men would rather cry for hours and then flip into a rage than feel nothing at all while doing nothing at all. It's an animal house. The perfect testing ground for zen.
