Profit Booking Weighs on Nifty; Rupee Extends Four-Day Winning Streak
Nifty broke its four-session winning streak, declining 85 points to close at 23,329. The index opened 40 points higher and held firm during the first hour of trade.
Sectoral performance remained skewed towards the negative. All sectoral indices, barring Media, Realty and Metal, closed in the red. IT, Consumer Durables and FMCG were the worst-performing sectors.
Broader markets outperformed the benchmark indices, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 declining 0.08% and 0.23%, respectively.
The rupee extended its winning streak to a fourth consecutive session, appreciating 23 paise to close at 95.59 against the US dollar.
