Nifty Extends Gains on Strong Asian Cues and Softer Crude
Nifty closed higher for the second consecutive session, gaining 53 points to finish at 23,270. After opening 22 points lower, the index-built momentum in the first half, but a mid-session pullback from the highs capped overall gains.
Among sectoral indices, baring Nifty Private Banks, PSU Banks, and OIL/Gas all sectoral indices ended with gains. Amongst them, Pharma, Healthcare and Realty gained the most.
Broader markets outpaced the benchmarks, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 gaining 0.72% and 0.76%, respectively.
The rupee endured a whipsaw session, initially buckling under a hawkish Fed and softer Asian FX sentiment. Those early losses, however, proved short-lived as the central bank stepped in with forceful dollar defense, pulling the currency off the mat to eke out marginal gains of 3 paise and close at 95.93.
