Only two U.S. presidents have taken the oath of office in the Capitol Rotunda: Ronald Reagan (second term, January 21, 1985) and Donald Trump (second term, January 20, 2025).
Reagan's 1985 public ceremony was the first in the Rotunda. Inauguration Day fell on a Sunday, so he took a private oath at the White House on January 20 and the public oath the next day indoors because of extreme cold.
Trump's 2025 ceremony was also moved inside due to bitter cold.
