Mnemonic: Ottawa Ankle Rules (When to X-Ray)
Use the acronym: OAR
O - Older than 55?
A - Ankle pain with bony tenderness at:
- Posterior edge or tip of lateral malleolus (A)
- Posterior edge or tip of medial malleolus (B)
R - Red flag: Inability to bear weight immediately AND in ED
📌 If any of these are positive → order an X-ray.
📌 High sensitivity for ruling out fractures.
