South Korea’s innovative small modular reactor (i-SMR) has moved into the early stage of the formal approval process, as the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission received a report from the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS) on its review plan for the government-led application for standard design approval. The application was submitted on February 27 by the Innovative Small Modular Reactor Technology Development Project Group, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, and the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute.
