On this day in 1955 🇫🇷 Maurice Pujo, one of the fathers of French nationalism, passed away.

In 1899 he founded Action Française, the country’s oldest nationalist organisation, still active today.

In 1908 he became a leading figure and later leader of the newly founded Camelots du Roi, a militant youth organisation.

They became notorious for violent street action and clashes with left-wing opponents, including communists and jews.

The Camelots du Roi played a major role in the violent anti-parliamentary riots of 6 February 1934 in Paris.

In 1945, he was convicted of “intelligence with Germany” and sentenced to five years in prison and national indignity.
