Gratitudine
Qualche anno fa, a Singapore, dopo una cerimonia nuziale, il padre della sposa prese da parte il suo nuovo genero per dargli qualche consiglio su come avere un matrimonio lungo e felice.
«Probabilmente ami molto mia figlia» disse al giovane.
«Certo!» esclamò il giovane.
«E probabilmente pensi che sia la persona più meravigliosa del mondo» continuò il vecchio.
«È perfetta da tutti i punti di vista» tubò il giovane.
«Quando ci si sposa è così» disse il vecchio. «Ma fra qualche anno comincerai a vedere i difetti di mia figlia.
Quando comincerai a notare i suoi difetti, voglio che ti ricordi una cosa.
Se non avesse quei difetti, tanto per cominciare, caro genero, avrebbe sposato un uomo molto migliore di te!»
In questo modo saremo sempre riconoscenti dei difetti del nostro partner, perché se non li avesse avuti fin dall’inizio avrebbe potuto sposare una persona molto migliore di noi.

Gratitude
A few years ago, in Singapore, after a wedding ceremony, the bride’s father took his new son-in-law aside to give him some advice on how to have a long and happy marriage.
‘You probably love my daughter very much,’ he said to the young man.
‘Of course!’ exclaimed the young man.
‘And you probably think she’s the most wonderful person in the world,’ continued the old man.
‘She’s perfect in every way,’ boasted the young man.
‘That’s how it is when you get married,’ said the old man. ‘But in a few years’ time, you’ll start to see my daughter’s faults.
When you start to notice her faults, I want you to remember one thing.
If she didn’t have those faults to begin with, my dear son-in-law, she would have married a much better man than you!’
In this way, we’ll always be grateful for our partner’s flaws, because if they hadn’t had them from the start, they could have married someone much better than us.
