The £400 figure is possible, but it is not guaranteed for every cloudy-area home. It comes from a solar installer’s model using a south-facing 4kW system, average electricity use and 50% of the generated power used inside the home. A shaded, north-facing or smaller roof may save less. The headline also leaves out roughly £7,000 in upfront installation costs. Independent guidance agrees that solar reduces bills, but says results depend on location, roof direction, daytime use and export payments. The saving is plausible; the wording makes a best-fit estimate sound universal.
