The NHS will offer seven-minute finger-prick cholesterol tests, but “offer” needs context. The first stage starts this autumn at around 100 participating pharmacies and remains a pilot until spring 2027. It is not immediately available at every high-street pharmacy. Eligible patients are 40 to 84, not pregnant, and must not have had a blood test during the previous year. A smaller trial tested 2,493 people; 19% were considered suitable for drug treatment and 88 started statins. The service is real and useful, but the headline makes the initial reach sound broader than it is.
