🚨 The Texas State Board of Education has just approved a new mandatory reading list for students k-12 that includes 200 Bible stories and passages! 🙏🏻🎉 ✝️

This will affect roughly 5.5 million public school students, aka 11% of the total U.S. public school population. 🤯

This stems from a 2023 state law (HB 1605) that mandated at least one literary work per grade level, but the board went way further and created a list of roughly 200 texts.

Some of the texts required:

• Grade school: Picture-book adaptations like David and Goliath, Daniel and the Lion’s Den, stories of Noah’s Ark, Exodus, Adam and Eve and more.

• Middle school: Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, Jonah and the Whale, excerpts from Psalms and more.

• High school: Genesis, Lamentations, Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15), 1 Corinthians 13 ("Definition of Love") and more.

The Bible is foundational to Western literature, history, and U.S. founding principles, enhancing cultural literacy.

This is a massive move that will resonate within their communities.
