💲 Tether Freezes $550M in USDT
In 2026, Tether assisted in freezing approximately $550 million worth of USDT—funds linked by U.S. authorities to Iran’s Central Bank and networks involved in evading sanctions.
At the request of OFAC and U.S. law enforcement, over $344 million was blocked across two addresses in April. The following day, the U.S. Treasury officially designated these addresses as digital currency identifiers of Iran’s Central Bank. Then in July, an additional $130 million was frozen across four wallets after sanctions were extended to include TRON-based addresses.
