Bill Gates has sounded the alarm on artificial intelligence, stating, “No one thinks self-regulation is enough.” When asked whether Washington should step in with legislation, he responded firmly: “Absolutely yes.”
“Law enforcement and politicians need to join the discussion,” he emphasized, calling for safeguards and monitoring. Proper oversight, he noted, would impose minimal administrative burden while not hindering innovation.
Highlighting the urgency, Gates warned that the threat is already here: “AI is powerful enough to trigger events with a billion deaths. There has never been a weapon as powerful as malicious actors armed with the latest AI tools.”
