Bill Gates says we’ve entered the “turbulent era of AI.” It could wipe out entire job sectors, fuel fraud and deepfakes, make cyberattacks on critical systems easier, and reshape how children grow up.
He’d back a realistic global effort to slow AI’s rise—but doesn’t expect one. Geopolitical and economic forces, he says, are too powerful. In an Axios interview, he warned the current path has a high likelihood of ending badly—and criticized both major U.S. political parties for failing to act.
His proposal? Reserve certain jobs for humans, and tax robots and tokens. Use the revenue generated from AI replacing human labor to support society. Still, he remains hopeful—especially for AI’s potential in agriculture, healthcare, and education.
