"The often quoted "love your enemies" (Matthew 5:44) says "diligite inimicos vestros", but not "diligite hostes vestros"; there is no question of a political enemy here. Also, in the thousand-year struggle between Christianity and Islam, it never occurred to any Christian that one should not defend Europe, but, out of love for the Saracens or the Turks, surrender it to Islam. In the political sense, it is not necessary to personally hate an enemy, and only in the private sphere does it make sense to love one's "enemy", that is, one's adversary. It does not at all mean that one should love the enemies of one's people and support them against one's own people."
