QCB foreign exchange reserves rise 0.75% to QR262.24 bn in August International reserves and foreign currency liquidity at the Qatar Central Bank (QCB) increased 0.75 percent year-on-year in August 2026, reaching QR262.240 billion, compared to QR260.282 billion recorded during the same month last year, according to official data released by the central bank on Monday.

The latest figures point to continued strength in Qatar’s external liquidity position, with a significant increase in official international reserves helping offset a decline in foreign bonds and treasury bills during the period.

QCB data showed that official international reserves rose by 9.7 percent year-on-year, increasing by QR19.663 billion to reach QR220.515 billion at the end of August 2026, compared to QR200.852 billion in August 2025. The increase in official reserves was supported particularly by higher gold holdings and balances maintained with foreign banks.

Gold reserves recorded a substantial increase during the year. The value of QCB’s gold holdings climbed by nearly QR13.604 billion to QR60.087 billion at the end of August 2026, compared to QR46.483 billion during the corresponding month of 2025.

The data also showed a sharp increase in balances with foreign banks, which rose by approximately QR48.831 billion year-on-year to QR62.763 billion by the end of August.

At the same time, Qatar’s holdings of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) registered a marginal decline. The SDR holdings deposit balance fell by around QR13 million year-on-year to QR5.230 billion at the end of August.

Meanwhile, the balance of foreign bonds and treasury bills declined by approximately QR42.761 billion during the period, standing at QR92.433 billion at the end of August 2026.

Official international reserves comprise several key components, including foreign bonds and treasury bills, cash balances held with foreign banks, gold holdings, SDR deposits and Qatar’s quota at the IMF. These components, together with other liquid assets such as foreign currency deposits, constitute the country’s overall international reserves and foreign currency liquidity.

The continued growth in Qatar’s official reserves, particularly the rise in gold holdings and foreign bank balances. https://www.qatar-tribune.com/article/252579/business/qcb-foreign-exchange-reserves-rise-075-to-qr26224-bn-in-august
