SCRIPTURE
Character of the New Man
14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Colossians 3:14–17 (NKJV)
Comfort in Suffering
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.
2 Corinthians 1:3–5 (NKJV)
PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
We praise You that in our Lord we are elect, holy, and beloved, and that You are the Father of mercies and God of all comfort. Give us grace to live that calling with tender mercy, kindness, and humility.
Guard our tongues, we pray, in a week of sharp words and public claims. Make us ready to bear with one another, quick to forgive as our Savior has forgiven us, and eager to put on love, the bond of perfection.
Let the peace of God rule in our hearts as one body, and let His word dwell in us richly. May all we do this week, in word and deed, be done in the name of Your One and Only Son, with thanksgiving to You through Him, and with the consolation that abounds through Christ.
In the mighty and precious name of Jesus,
Amen.
