Clarification
1. Are we doing what Musala is already doing?
No. We are not here to compete with them. In fact, we hope to collaborate with them and are trying to get in touch. Our long-term goals are different, and for now we are simply starting with a location directory inside the app.
2. How are we verifying whether for example, restaurants are halal?
This is currently under discussion. We are consulting people of knowledge to determine where the line should be drawn regarding verification. Until a clear approach is established, we will operate only in matters that are clear to us. Once a decision is reached on the remaining issues, we will announce it.
If we waited until every detail was resolved before launching, it would take a long time. Instead, we chose to release the app as a beta with the features and information we are confident about today.
What is Weam?
At this stage, Weam is a location directory that helps users easily find Muslim-friendly places nearby. We are currently focusing on Addis Ababa, and by the permission of Allah, we will expand as our team grows and operations become more established.
At the moment, only the Masjid category has listings. The remaining categories are intentionally left empty because we want the community to help build them. If you know of a place that should be included, please register it through the app, and after review we will publish it.
We also plan to expand our team to add places in person, In Sha'Allah. Until then, we sincerely appreciate your support by reporting any issues you find and adding places that are not yet listed.
