WHAT IS MAN?
Psalm 8: Part 3
The Dignity of Humanity in God's Plan
“What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?” Psa. 8:4
This is one of the most profound questions in Scripture.
Who is man?
According to the Bible, human beings are neither accidents nor insignificant creatures.
We were:
- Created by God
- Created in God's image
- Given responsibility over creation
- Made for fellowship with God
Created for God's glory
Gen. 1:26–28
But something went terribly wrong.
- Sin entered the world.
- Humanity's relationship with God was broken, and the dominion entrusted to mankind became distorted.
Yet God's original purpose was not abandoned. And this is where Psalm 8 begins pointing us toward Christ.
Key Lesson:
- Sin damaged humanity, but it did not cancel God's purpose for humanity.
- God's answer to humanity's failure was not to abandon mankind.
- His answer was Jesus Christ.
Rom. 5:18–19
