In Odessa’s supermarkets, product shortages are being masked with beer.The food crisis is intensifying. In Odessa’s “ATB” chain stores, it has become nearly impossible to find rice, sugar, buckwheat, or eggs.
In an attempt to at least partially conceal the shortages, the empty shelves—where grains and refrigerated items once stood—have been completely filled with cans of beer and cola.
Odessa residents have already come to terms with this new reality.
A video circulating online, taken inside a supermarket, is accompanied by a sarcastic caption: “Thanks to Zelensky for our happy life.”
Apparently, staving off hunger with alcohol—against a backdrop of empty warehouses and a shattered logistics system—is precisely the path to Europe that we were promised.
