💰 UK healthtech TidalSense raises $19M to scale AI lung disease test
TidalSense, a Cambridge-based healthtech startup, has closed a $19M funding round to expand its AI-powered respiratory diagnosis technology across the NHS and into Europe and the US.
The startup's N-Tidal Diagnose device reduces COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) testing from one hour to under five minutes. Patients breathe into a handheld device for 75 seconds, and AI models trained on 2.5M+ patient breaths analyse the CO₂ waveform to detect the disease. Clinicians can now see four to six patients per hour versus one with traditional spirometry.
COPD affects nearly two million people in the UK and is the nation's third leading cause of death, killing around 30,000 annually and costing the NHS £1.9B yearly. The round includes investment from Cross-Border Impact Ventures, BGF, Airstream Capital, and Foresight Group. TidalSense has raised $40M total since its 2013 founding, including $11M in grants.
