SHIB was created in August 2020 by an anonymous developer using the pseudonym "Ryoshi" (which means "fisherman" in Japanese). Echoing the mystery of Bitcoin's creator Satoshi Nakamoto, Ryoshi eventually deleted all their blog posts and tweets and stepped away from the project.
