For years, I have taught that America’s decline as a global superpower will not begin with military defeat. It will begin when morality collapses and human life loses its value.
We are watching it happen before our eyes.
Lindsay Clancy does not deny strangling her three young children - Cora, Dawson and Callan. Prosecutors say she sent her husband out of the house, waited until she was alone with the children and killed them one after another.
Yet hundreds have gathered outside the courthouse wearing pink and carrying messages such as “Justice for Lindsay,” “Peace for Lindsay” and “She Needed Help.”
Postpartum mental illness is real and must be taken seriously. But compassion must never erase truth, accountability or justice. We can acknowledge that someone was deeply troubled without transferring our sympathy from the innocent children to the person who killed them.
Cora, Dawson and Callan were defenseless. They posed no threat. Yet they have nearly disappeared from the story while their killer is increasingly presented as its central victim.
That is moral inversion.
“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
Isaiah 5:20
For decades, Western society has been taught that a child in the womb has no inherent value - that the unborn child is merely a “clump of cells” whose right to live depends upon whether he or she is wanted.
Once human life becomes conditional, the distance between killing a child before birth and excusing the killing of a child after birth becomes dangerously short. The language may change - choice, trauma, impulse, illness or personal need - but the innocent child remains dead.
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”
Deuteronomy 30:19
History teaches us that empires rarely fall first because of enemies outside their gates. They decay from within, and then their enemies exploit the weakness.
When a nation can no longer distinguish good from evil, devalues human life, destroys the family, rewards irresponsibility and disguises wickedness as compassion, its foundations begin to crumble.
Its military may remain powerful.
Its economy may continue to function.
Its institutions may still appear impressive.
But external strength cannot endure after the moral foundation has collapsed.
“Righteousness exalts a nation,
But sin is a reproach to any people.”
Proverbs 14:34
America did not become great through wealth and military power alone. It was built upon the conviction that human life has value because it was created by God, and that our fundamental rights come from Him - not from government.
When that foundation is abandoned, even the most powerful nation on earth is not immune from judgment.
“The wicked shall be turned into hell,
And all the nations that forget God.”
Psalm 9:17
America’s greatest threat is not China, Russia, Iran or terrorism.
Its greatest threat is forgetting God, rejecting His truth and abandoning the moral foundation that once taught the nation to protect innocent life.
But this is not merely a time to condemn. It is a time to pray, repent and bring our petitions before God.
Daniel was a righteous man, yet he did not separate himself from the sins of his people. He identified with them, confessed before God and pleaded for mercy.
“We have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments.”
Daniel 9:5
This is how believers should pray today - not only, “They have sinned,” but, “We have sinned.” We must confess the sins of our nations, plead for mercy and ask God to awaken His people before judgment comes.
“O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for Your own sake, my God, for Your city and Your people are called by Your name.”
