THE 3 P.M. LIGHT PROBLEM

The afternoon crash is often treated like a coffee emergency.

But sometimes it is a lighting problem.

You started the day indoors.
You stayed indoors.
By mid-afternoon, your brain has received a weak and repetitive version of “daytime.”

Natural daylight changes in intensity and color across the day. Indoor environments often flatten that variation into the same bright, static visual signal for hours.

Your body clock does not need a motivational speech.

It needs contrast.

Bright day.
Dim night.
Movement between them.

FIELD PROTOCOL

When the afternoon fog arrives, do not begin with another screen. Step outside or stand beside daylight for five minutes. Walk if you can. Let your eyes focus at a distance.

You may return with the same to-do list.

But not always with the same nervous system.
