When they ask me why I love Bucky Barnes so much…
And I think it has something to do with how someone like him even managed to hold up for so long. For someone who got dragged in the snow, taken to Hydra and turned into an experiment, he sure still knows how to… love. How to look around him and find a way to survive. Even after all he was forced to do while brainwashed, he still took the blame and believed that despite being brainwashed, he still did all of those things. He’s still guilty. Still a murderer. And that guilt of his has been eating him alive, so he dedicates his time to writing the names of the people he wants to make amends to and apologize for something that wasn’t truly his fault. He still takes accountability. And yeah, so many people have left him, and yet he tries to find ways to be open with people, to try and find a community of the sort. To try and SURVIVE. To see the world through new lenses and not be so chained to who he once was, even if it constantly haunts him. So many people think he’d be overly stoic or rude or that his trauma reflects his current self therefore he’d be more on the aggressive side, but… he’s not. In fact, he never ever wants to be like that ever again. He was like that before as a cold blooded killer, so maybe now he can have the chance to get used to being… Bucky. Just Bucky. By making connections. By giving chances because his best friend gave him one. And his biggest fear is proving his best friend wrong, that maybe he wasn’t worth the chance, so he’ll try everything to never, ever be the way the Winter Soldier was. I guess you could say he’s that one quote? From Undertale? “It’s you. Despite everything… it’s still you.” Despite every kill, every mission and every single ounce of pain he went through, it’s still Bucky. HE is still Bucky. And he’s trying to regain control of his life every single fucking day.
but I can’t say all of that so I just say he’s really hot.
