🇨🇳 China to inject 300 billion yuan into major state financial institutions
China’s Ministry of Finance announced today that it will issue 300 billion yuan (~$44.25 billion) in special treasury bonds to boost the Core Tier 1 capital of eight large state-owned banks and insurers.
This isn’t classic stimulus. The money strengthens the capital base of these institutions, enabling them to expand lending, absorb losses, and support the real economy even amid weak credit demand.
Recipients include ICBC, Agricultural Bank of China, Export-Import Bank of China, Sinosure, PICC, China Life, China Taiping, and China Reinsurance.
Notably, this is the first time such special bonds are also used to recapitalize major insurers.
