🇩🇪 📊 As it stands right now, the AfD takes 39 seats — three short of a majority in the 83-seat Landtag.
Because every establishment party maintains a strict firewall against the AfD, the CDU and SPD now face an acutely awkward choice. Their only realistic route to government is an unusually broad, ideologically strained coalition with the Greens, the far-left Die Linke, and the new left-populist BSW (anti-immigration, Russia-sympathetic).
This would force the centre-right CDU and centre-left SPD into a formal partnership with parties they normally treat as political opponents — simply to keep the clear election winner out of power.
