A single Ethereum contract has extracted over 117,000 ETH (~$295M) by sandwiching traders since March 2023 — front-running buys and back-running sells to pocket the difference.
In June, an anonymous attacker flipped the script. They deployed 66 transactions to exploit the bot using its own MEV tactics, draining $7.5M in a single attack.
Sandwich bots work by spotting a pending trade, inserting a buy just before it and a sell just after — profiting from the price movement caused by the victim's own transaction. This time, the hunter became the hunted.
