Lingual Retainers โ A Simple Chairside Tip โ I've tried both floss and ligature wire for placing bonded lingual retainers. โข Floss: Works well initially, but if the procedure takes longer, it tends to loosen. โข Ligature wire: Secure, but I find it more time-consuming. โ Recently, I started using two 3/16-inch, 3.5 oz intraoral elastics positioned at the level of the lateral incisors to hold the retainer wire in place. It has worked extremely well, keeping the wire stable while freeing up both hands. โ This simple modification reduced my average bonding time from around 10 minutes to just 3โ4 minutes, including etching. โ The choice of adhesive also makes a noticeable difference.
