18 years ago, the domain of the first website about Bitcoin, Bitcoin(.)org, was registered
On August 18, 2008, the anonymous creator of Bitcoin, known as Satoshi Nakamoto, together with developer Martti Malmi, registered the domain Bitcoin(.)org. From 2011 to 2013, this site was used as the main resource for publishing new releases of the Bitcoin Core software.
This happened a few months before the publication of the Bitcoin technical document (white paper) on October 31, 2008. The network itself was launched on January 3, 2009.
In the early versions of the site, several paragraphs describing the project were published, along with links and recommendations for installing Bitcoin software.
Unlike most cryptocurrencies on the market, Bitcoin has never had and still does not have an official internet resource. Bitcoin(.)org has always been just one of many projects owned and managed by members of the Bitcoin community, not by official development teams.
When Satoshi Nakamoto left the Bitcoin development project in 2011, ownership of the domain was transferred to early community members. The project is independent and open source, supported by various developers from around the world.
