Donald Trump has appointed Adam Telle, currently the Senate-confirmed assistant secretary of the Army for civil works, as acting secretary of the Army, "effective immediately." The move follows this week's resignation of Dan Driscoll, whose exit came amid reported months-long tensions with Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth over the Army's transformation and readiness push.
Notably, Trump bypassed the usual line of succession — under Secretary Michael Obidal was passed over in favor of Telle, a former chief of staff to Senator Bill Hagerty and Trump's ex-liaison to the Senate.
Telle steps into the Army's top civilian post at a moment when the service is left without confirmed leadership in both its top civilian and uniformed roles — Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George was removed by Hegseth back in April, with no formal nominee yet put forward to replace him.
