The Government of Ethiopia has set a target of 1.5 million homes over the next five years. That is not something any one institution finances on its own.
DBE is designing the financing that sits behind housing delivery - the mechanisms that let developers, housing authorities and materials manufacturers build at scale. Part of that design is how development finance partners can come in alongside us.
That is what today's session was for. We met development finance institutions to hear how they would take part, what they would need to see first, and where they think the Bank's approach needs rethinking. We held this session while the design can still change, rather than after it is fixed.
