World open-sourced ProveKit, a zero-knowledge toolkit for proving identity, letting anyone verify facts about themselves without handing over personal data.
Live in World ID since April, ProveKit generates cryptographic proofs directly on a user's phone or browser, so a verifier only learns the specific claim, like being over 18 or a citizen, and never sees the underlying document. It targets 128-bit post-quantum security with no trusted setup, and runs in seconds on most phones, under 30 seconds on low-end devices.
Built over roughly two years and supporting Aztec's Noir language, the v1 release handles off-chain verification, while a coming v2 will shrink proofs and add on-chain checks via Groth16 on World Chain, Ethereum, Base and Solana.
Remco Bloemen, head of blockchain at the World Foundation, argues identity documents "should only be authenticated using zero-knowledge proofs," a pitch sharpened by the FBI's probe into 153 million leaked U.S. driver's licenses.
