California lawmakers have passed AB 2409, a bill that would prohibit public officials and employees from issuing meme coins. The legislation also targets certain government-linked tokens offered to California residents.
The bill now awaits Gov. Gavin Newsom’s signature, with the relevant restrictions set to apply from January 1, 2027 if enacted.
