Yosemite Sam (Debut in "Hare Trigger", 1945)
While Yosemite Sam appeared in many roles, his debut story sets the tone for his entire career. In Hare Trigger, Sam is a notorious, pint-sized train robber with a massive mustache and an even bigger temper. The story follows his attempt to hold up a train, only to find Bugs Bunny standing in his way. Unlike Elmer Fudd, Sam is loud, aggressive, and heavily armed, but his undoing is always his own explosive ego. Bugs uses Sam’s short fuse against him, leading the outlaw through a series of "western" showdowns, collapsing bridges, and literal explosions, establishing Sam as the ultimate "tough guy" who is constantly outsmarted by a calm rabbit.
