Herman de Vries grew up in an upper-bourgeois, Calvinist merchant family and initially became the owner of an securities office in Utrecht. In 1908, he converted to Catholicism.
"Vries de Heekelingen remained an active agent of fascist internationalism in the 1930s, for whom ideas of Aryan superiority and antisemitism became increasingly focal. This became particularly evident in his conspiratorial and antisemitic work published in 1937 called Israël. Son passé. Son avenir (Israel. Its past. Its future).65 Therein, he constructed a millennia-old insurmountable opposition between the Christian civilization of the Aryan peoples and the materialistic, revolutionary Judaism, shaped by the spirit of the Talmud and allegedly striving for world domination.
