Was reading a research paper recently, and this one metric made me question why it actually happens. So I analyzed Nifty from its inception, and surprisingly, the pattern is still the same. Why does almost all of Nifty's long term return come from overnight gaps while intraday returns remain negative? Still trying to understand the structural reasons behind it.
